S.J.B. College of Education, Nedumkunnam, celebrated its vibrant heritage and artistic spirit through its annual Cultural Fest, titled “Thanurooham,” held on February 25, 2026. The event served as a grand stage for students, alumni, and local talent to showcase their creative prowess, further strengthening the bond between the institution and the community.

Inaugural Ceremony

The formal proceedings commenced with a solemn prayer, seeking divine blessings for the success of the fest. Mr. Sony Mathew, Union Chairman of SJB College of Education, delivered the welcome address, setting an enthusiastic tone for the day’s celebrations.

The festival was officially inaugurated by the renowned Film Director, Mr. Jayaraj. In his inaugural address, he spoke about the power of art in shaping human character and encouraged the future teachers to integrate cultural education into their pedagogy. Smt. Rajamma Raveendran, President of Nedumkunnam Gramapanchayath, delivered the felicitation message, highlighting the college’s consistent role in the cultural upliftment of the region.

The stage came alive with a diverse array of performances that spanned traditional and contemporary genres:

• Vanchippattu: Highlighting the collaborative spirit of the institution, students from the Government High School performed a rhythmic and soulful Vanchippattu, much to the delight of the audience.
• Introductory Dance: The SJB Team performed an energetic opening dance that set the momentum for the artistic sessions.
• Classical Heritage: Ms. Ananthalakshmi A, Union Arts Secretary, mesmerized the gathering with a powerful Kathakali performance, showcasing the depth of Kerala’s classical theatre.
• Folk Traditions: The vibrant and ritualistic art of Padayani was brought to the stage by Mr. Abhijith V Nair & Team, representing the SJB Alumni.
• Contemporary Beats: The festival took a modern turn with a high-energy performance by the Musical Band led by Mr. Nevin Premson & Team, another group of distinguished SJB Alumni.

Conclusion

The “Thanurooham” Cultural Fest concluded on a high note, celebrating the seamless blend of tradition and modernity. Ms. Janaki M. Sasidharan, Union Chairperson of SJB College of Special Education, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the guests, performers, and organizers who made the event a resounding success.

The day ended with the rendition of the National Anthem, leaving the attendees with a sense of pride and cultural fulfillment.
