Interactive Edutainment Session Inspires Prospective Teachers at SJB Academy
Nedumkunnam: St. John the Baptist’s Academy of Education hosted a groundbreaking session on “Edutainment – A New Methodology of Teaching and Learning” on December 9, 2024. Organized by the Oratory Club, the event aimed to introduce innovative teaching strategies by combining education with entertainment to enhance student engagement and retention.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address by Rev. Fr. Sebu Johnson, the Bursar of the Academy. In his remarks, he emphasized the transformative potential of creativity in education. Rev. Fr. Johnson Mathew, Principal of SJB College of Special Education, further highlighted the importance of integrating fun into the learning process during his introductory speech. Miss Sneha Thomas, President of Oratory club presided over the function.
The session was inaugurated by the world-renowned speed cartoonist and pictorial orator, Adv. Dr. Jitheshji, widely celebrated as the father of speed cartooning. Through his keynote address, Dr. Jitheshji demonstrated his signature style of ‘Varayarangu,’ combining rapid illustrations with storytelling to make learning both engaging and memorable. He introduced prospective teachers to the concept of edutainment as a tool for creating meaningful connections between educational content and personal experiences.
An interactive session with the guest speaker allowed the attendees to discuss and explore practical applications of edutainment in teaching. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Jobin Jossey, Programme Coordinator, and ended with the National Anthem.
The session left participants inspired to rethink conventional teaching methods and adopt innovative approaches in their future classrooms.
